In the study, Siberian hamsters were given light exposure to the light conditions and different intensity for four weeks. Half of the animals that received light constantly the same amount of light exposure from the TV in a dark room all night.

When compared to hamsters fed a very dark light, hamsters that received the half-light has less energy, less motivation, and less desire to drink their sugar water.

“The results we found in hamsters similar to what we know about depression in
humans,” said Tracy Bedrosian, one of the researchers.

The invention is also focused on tissue changes in the hippocampus – which is a big part of the same brain changes as humans also have depression.

During the week of the lighting conditions are returned to the lighting standards, the hamster was returned to its original state.

The researchers say that increased exposure to light during the night in the past 50 years has resulted in increased depression, especially in women.
